# Install HashiCorp Vault

> Set up Vault for encrypting Itential Platform properties

This guide shows you how to install HashiCorp Vault for encrypting and decrypting properties in Itential Platform.

## Before you begin

You must be logged in as the root user in your Platform instance.
Using `sudo` or a different account with root-level access will not work.

## Install Vault

#### Install repository manager

Install `yum-config-manager` to manage your repositories.

```bash
yum install -y yum-utils
```

#### Add HashiCorp repository

Add the official HashiCorp Linux repository.

```bash
yum-config-manager --add-repo https://rpm.releases.hashicorp.com/RHEL/hashicorp.repo
```

#### Install Vault

```bash
yum -y install vault
```

#### Verify installation

Confirm Vault is installed correctly.

```bash
vault --version
```
