# Configuration

> Overview of Platform 6 configuration using environment variables and the platform.properties file in Admin Essentials.

Beginning with the Platform 6 release, Itential Platform is now primarily configured through environment variables or a functionally equivalent `platform.properties` configuration file. This functionality replaces the legacy `properties.json` file. Configuration via `properties.json` is fully deprecated in Platform 6, and profiles are also no longer required for configuration.

To view the current configuration in Platform 6, navigate to **Admin Essentials > Configuration**. From this page, all configuration properties, their values, and their origins are shown.
