# Platform 6.3.0 feature announcement

> Highlights for the Platform 6.3.0 minor release.

Platform 6.3 introduces Inventory Manager, a platform-managed inventory application, plus configurable workflow performance optimization for resource control under load.

## Featured improvements

### Inventory Manager

Inventory Manager provides a centralized inventory management application that serves as the inventory source for Itential Platform applications. For more information, see Inventory Manager.

**Key benefits:**

* **Centralized management**: Manage all your automation targets from a single location instead of distributing inventory across multiple gateway instances.
* **Flexible integration**: Populate inventories from any inventory system.
* **Role-based access control**: Control who can view, create, modify, delete, and execute operations on inventories, nodes, actions, and tags through RBAC at the inventory level.
* **Automated updates**: Schedule workflows to keep your inventories synchronized with your inventory systems.
* **Device Broker compatibility**: Work with Configuration Manager and command templates through backward-compatible Device Broker support.
* **Gateway 4 migration support**: Run Gateway 4 and Inventory Manager side by side during migration, giving you time to transition without disrupting operations.

* Platform 6.3 or later
* Gateway 5.3 or later
* Gateway Manager 1.0.5 or later

### Workflow engine optimization

Control workflow task execution rates to maintain system stability during high-volume processing. Configurable rate limiting prevents resource exhaustion and enables predictable performance characteristics.

The Workflow Engine's task worker controls how quickly tasks are initiated for execution. Rate limits are set at the Platform instance level — the combined task execution rate for all task workers in an instance will not exceed the configured limit.
